Monkey 47 distiller's cut 2017

I am very honoured to share with you today my review of … the all-new Monkey 47 Gin Distiller’s Cut 2017!!!

As one of the first Monkeys, I was given the chance to hold it in my hands even before the official release and was asked by the Black Forest Distillery to review it.

Monkey 47 Distiller's cut 2017 Gin

Germany (by Black Forest Distillers)

As many readers will know, every year around Christmas time, the Black Forest Distillers of the famous Monkey 47 Gin launch a very exclusive Distiller’s Cut. They use the same divine principles of their flagship Monkey 47 Gin - 47 botanicals, 47% alcohol and the crystal clear water of the German Black Forest – but they add that one extra-special ingredient.

What is it then, that makes this Christmas edition so special? For one, the botanical line-up and their proportions are never the same as with the original Monkey 47 and on the other hand, it even differs every year! What they do change remains a huge secret, so Christmas time will be Monkey 47 Distiller 's cut time from now on!

The focus of this year’s Distiller’s cut is a botanical with a handsome Latin name: the “achillea moschata”, beter known as Simple Leaved Milfoil (“duizendblad” in Dutch), a perennial flowering plant, belonging to the sunflower family. It adds a slightly bitter, nice earthy taste to the flagship Monkey.

Just take a Thomas Henry Tonic and combine it with … nothing else at all actually! No weird or far-fetched garnishes, no fresh vegetables ;-) … just add enough ice and that’s all!

Conclusion:

We can say for sure that this year’s Distiller’s cut is a gin meant for full grown gin enthusiasts and is therefore a must-have for every gin addict!

I was simply amazed by the wholereal gintwist it got: this Distiller’s cut goes against the whole trend these days of making sweet and tame gins. Nothing of this kind here, even just the opposite! This gin is so full of flavour and character, it has balls!

I’m very grateful to the people of Black Forest Distillers for this amazing gin! I’m a big fan!

Score: 94/100

No wonder it scores a beautiful gold GinUrWay medal!

Wait! F.ck it! I’m changing to 95/100! And well deserved!
